GUEST BEDROOM    VAUD - SWITZERLAND

These clients wanted to continue my initial proposed, living room Design Style throughout their entire home. I was very grateful to be asked to continue with their Hallway, Toilet and Basement TV-room after that and they now wanted me to design their Guest Bedroom. Their wishes for this room were that it needed a new large double bed, some storage space for clothing & files,  a workspace for her husband and, if space allowed, a comfy arm chair as well.

As the space is not big and has a sloped ceiling I still wanted to find a way to incorporate all their wishes in the room without it looking too crowded and full, which it easily could become. I also wanted to make sure I kept the connection and flow with the other room Designs.

I came up with a calming, on nature inspired look which they liked a lot. I chose light and airy furniture pieces to not make  the room look optically any smaller than it already was. Instead, to make the room feel even bigger. I also suggested a forest Wall Mural that added an interesting depth to the room and with the slatted headboard you would almost get the illusion that you look out over your balcony into the surrounding valley. I continued the neutral colour scheme coherent to the rest of the house but added a calming green/grey accent colour on one piece of wall. By adding a few mirrors the eye is drawn much further than the wall they are on and its clever positioning ensures  light is bounced back into the  darker corner underneath the sloped ceiling. The desk area now is a flexible workspace with some easy to hide storage to pack away files & papers when guests are staying, and I even managed to fit in an armchair.

I created this Design Plan for the Guestroom  via my Distant Design Service, which I presented to them  during a video call. This works really well, as it ensures that everything I suggest in my Design Proposal is clear to the clients and there is always ample time for any questions they might still have. With the digital Lay-out plan it is easy to see where everything should go and a few elevations (see below) gave the clients a better idea of the effect of the mural and the overall final look. With the provided detailed, digital shopping list with direct links to all the suggested items they could start shopping straight away.
